Ross Bingham
Security Officer
Congratulations to Ross Bingham, who received an honorary Australia Day Achievement Award 2008. The award was personally presented to Ross by the Secretary of The Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts for outstanding performance and significant contributions to the Department and it's business. The Australia Day Achievement Award was “in recognition of Ross’ exemplary service when welcoming visitors and delegations into the department". A culmination of the many positive reports they have received about his work from both staff and visitors to the department, this was the first time the Award has been presented to an external contractor.

Airport Screeners - SNP Milestone Award Winners
Barbara joined SNP in 1972, and Jeanine joined in 1975. In those days, airport screening was done by hand, looking for weapons, prohibited items and sharp implements. Both worked on the mobile checking teams, which moved between departure lobbies around the airport, pushing their mobile walk-through metal detector and carrying the heavy hand scanners. Barbara remembers strange items coming through like a lamp shade on an Olympic Airways flight and a stainless steel sink on an Air India flight. Between flights, the teams would take the chance to talk and get to know everybody. As Jeanine said said, there was a lot of laughter and enjoyment but the security work was taken seriously.
